Abilities' Homes for Independence (HFI) has several programs designed to allow people with disabilities to live independently in the community.
HFI obtains donations to acquire and renovate single-family homes and condos and make them available for sale.
- Home Ownership Program In partnership with Pinellas County Community Development, the City of St. Petersburg, and local mortgage lenders, HFI makes low-interest payments and home ownership possible. For as little as $500 down and less than one would expect to pay for monthly rent, people can obtain a $50,000 condominium.
- Equity Program HFI leases apartments and homes to persons with disabilities. A portion of their monthly rent is placed in an interest-bearing savings account to build equity for a down payment.
- Cocoa Apartments HFI owns and manages apartment units in Cocoa, Florida. The benefactor who donated these units received a substantial tax deduction.
